movies I recommend
Today I am in a filmi mood. Watched a good movie yesterday.....and i thought that it could be worth recommending. Now when I say 'recommending', I don't mean the 'sure bets' which anyhow you would have watched, instead I would name those movies which in the most probable case would have been missed, either because they were not marketed properly...or should I say 'hyped' optimally (e.g. socha na tha) or because, they were released at the wrong time (e.g. rahna hai tere dil main).
I have a soft corner for both of the above movies because I feel that their fate in some ways resembles mine...despite being good they could not receive the success they deserved. Well the difference is that my 'reel' is not yet over while theirs final editing was long ago completed and the verdict was passed and.... forgotten.
I want to bring your attention to similar good movies. I don't know if they were hit or not but they are worth watching for sure.
The list that follows is not in order of preference or liking, rather, they follow the chronological order of my viewing them. The downside is that for most of them I don't remember their director or cast but if you like my reviews, you will soon learn to live with this limitation and search IMDB instead. Also I will try to keep it updated, with new recommendables joining in.
- Wanted: (not the salman wali...this one is an english movie folks)The reason I liked the movie was the sheer madness of it. Imagine David Dhawan in his good old days making a spoof on Matrix. Not a literary spoof I mean because the story goes a unique path and so does the bullets.
- The pursuit of happyness: It is a 'do watcher' for the kid and his jokes though they are few, the rest of the time the struggle of his dad keeps you glued and.... inspired later.
- The green Mile: Earlier I used to like Tom Hanks because he would remind me of Amir Khan but I noticed him for his own charm in this movie. Equally charming were the giant and the mouse. It is a heady mixture of everything-the moral of good over bad, innocent laughters and screeching 'oh-no's', but the most memorable is the Tom Hanks smile, go watch it!
- Vantage Point : I think I should move this movie up in my list.....not because of priority...but because if you happen to be actually following my recommendation, this one will increase my credibility as an intelligent viewer instead of a 'star struck' one, who happens to remember a 'smile'! As I have already said, it is an intelligent movie, the action and the thrill are the bonus!
- Condemned : If you are not yet fed up of reality shows, then this is one movie you should watch, for it takes the 'extremes' of a reality depicted as a 'show' to the new 'depths', quite literally.
- Khuda ke Liye : I liked the movie for its honesty. The fact that 'almost all terrorists are muslims but all muslims are not terrorists' could not have been portrayed better. And the fact that it comes from the country where intolerance is slowly becoming the order of the law, makes the efforts all the more respectable.
The next that follows is the list containing those movies which, for me, started on a promising note, but somewhere on their way, lost their charm. I am mentioning them to wipe out the possibility of their becoming the victims of my 'overexpectations'.
- The longest yard : If you are a soccer fan, no need to read further, order the movie immediately, for others, a word of caution, as per me, everything but the end was superb. Had it been handled properly, this one would have found place in my upper list. But may be it was supposed to be this way only.....afterall I don't know the difference between Pele and Maradona, how can I comment on a movie which starts with football and ends with it. and in between, as I alrady said, the movie is excellent!!!
- Hot Fudge : As I started to watch the movie, I found it wierd but funny, as it progressed it got funnier and wierder and.... the trajectory continued. May be it is the reason the movie overall became too much for me! If you have an appetite and the ability to make sense out of non-sense, you should go for it.....for it is hilarious....that is sure.
Last but not the least I offer you a list of movies which seemes quite promising either because of their star cast or because of their high ratings given in the movie reviews....but i failed to make any sense of them. If you can make out what was the director trying to say.....promise me that you will let me know because I am really...really curious.
- 2046: Yes! this is the name of the movie!!! I managed to sit through the whole movie....but whole of it swept over me. On IQ and intelligence test levels, I immodestly consider myself above average.....though those who seriously know me may beg to differ....but I ignore their ignorance about me.....But such movies!!! They really embarrass you.....someone out their in the world was so intelligent to rate it as five star and here I am I could not even get a glimpse of the sky where the stars might be shining!!!!
- 15th Park Avenue: This is one movie with a great star cast, greater performances by Shabana Azmi, Konkana Sen Sharma and Rahul Bose and even greater director but....I am sure either of us i.e. the director or me.... snoozed at the end because that is one part which still eludes me.
So, that's it!! this my list which I hope to keep updated.
On a second reading of my own blog I realize that somehow none of the romances I have watched are included here. May be someother time!!!!
