3 idiots and Chetan Bhagat….the 4th ?

3 idiots and Chetan Bhagat….the 4th ?

Today jiya learnt to make a landscape in her drawing class. It was quite beautifully done, especially surprising as it was coming from under the hands of a yet-to-be five years old.

Next followed was a curious question- ‘Did you make it all?’

I received an innocent reply- ‘yes teacher made the dotted lines, on the basis of which we made it.’

Before I could applaud the teacher for her good efforts, I happened to glance at her another friend’s drawing sheet. What met my gaze there can almost be classified as an artistic disaster!!!!!

The same dotted lines…..same framework…..and such varying results!!!!!

Then I realized that its not the teacher that needs the pat on the back, but the student who used that framework to create the landscape.

And that’s it!!!! Mr. Bhagat!!!! That is it!!!!!

Please accept it gracefully that Mr. Vidhu Vinod Chopra used your ‘Five point someone’ as a mere guiding tool to create a script whose soul is completely different from that of your novel.

When I heard about your novel, I was very eager to read it, as my hubby comes from the same IIT delhi, and in the initial years of my marriage I used to look at his perceived intellect(?) with great awe. With similar awe and respect I started the novel….

…..but to my saddest disappointment I state this that you only succeeded in maligning the image of the very institute which you used to get your book sold.

I mean on the 8th chapter, I remember asking him ‘did you also take grass?’

Then at the 16th chapter I had asked him again ‘can one really do it with a prof’s daughter there?’

I think that was the lowest point in your novel. Till then I was bearing up with your cheap hyperboles, but after that I don’t remember I read it properly!!!!! You turned your supposedly good plot into a pulp fiction!!!!!

And you have a habit of doing it every time. I have managed to read 3 mistakes as well. And precisely this is the reason why I will not read the other two.

Please accept it that Hari is not even a shadow of Rancho. And I want to thank Mr. Chopra for that. Similarly, again thankfully there was not even a shred of your Neha in Priya….I hope you get the point.

I again insist that Mr. Chopra used ‘5 point someone’ just as a guideline.

Ok do me a favour. Do one simple exercise…..just for the argument’s sake!!!!!- just pick up any day’s newspaper and read it, even half-mindedly will do!!!!! And then try to write something meaningful based on the major incidents that you read in there!!!!

So, you got my point?!!!!!!

Mr. Chopra did the same!!!! And I think that he has given enough credit to you!!!!!

Period!!!!!

And to give another example of ‘artistic disaster’, the memories of ‘hallo’ are still fresh.

It is the brilliant finesse given to three idiots by its scriptwriters that makes it a masterpiece. They managed to crease out all the lows from your novel and gave a thousands more peaks to a plot which ok you conceived to start with.

But in the end what has resulted has just a shadow of your Ryan and Alok. all other characters owe their life to Vidhu Vinod Chopra only.

Don't you agree?
