a happy b'day in the midst of a swine flu scare

You know what????
Day after tomorrow, my blog will celebrate its happy birthday, its first to be precise.
But somehow after eight-nine months of continuous abhivyakti of my anubhuties, the flow dried, I wonder why?

Is it due to lack of readership, I ask myself?
But I found it not to be true, soon after I stopped posting my blogs. Several of friends asked me the reason of my absence on the blogosphere. (though I wonder why don’t they ever post their comments, but the fact that they follow my anubhuties (feelings) makes me feel good)

Then is it due to lack of thoughts, which prevents me from writing?
That’s also not true, I know. Since I have stopped expressing (abhivyakt-ing to be precise) there has become a ‘thought’ jam in my mind, every thought honking to get out first!!!

Then it must be lack of time, I wonder sometimes?
But no, to be honest, my average sleeping time in the last three months proves that I never was actually deprived of time.

I really can not account for the last three months (but minus the immediate last ten days). These are the days when Jiya was enjoying her ‘windfall holidays’, due to the swine flu scare. She again was glued to me for the entire day, with no swimming classes or playground excursions coming to provide me my two hour respite a day this time.

This swine flu scare in Mumbai, in my opinion was totally unnecessary, and equally unnecessary was the authorities’ decision to close the schools (also the multiplexes, but ironically indeed not the malls)

At the very start of the panic, I went to her school, to discuss and suggest that closing of school will not solve the problem, creating and spreading awareness among the parents will. What purpose did shutting down the schools serve when those kids were brought to the malls (to take advantage of the discount bonanzas being offered- just for a short period of course-‘till the stocks last’). Even I went to the preview sales at the shoppers stop for two out of the three days. And believe me those malls were much more crowded than the school.

It was even reported in the papers that owing to this swine flu vacations, the travel agents observed a 15% increase in their bookings over that particular ‘extended’ long weekend!!!!

I read it in the newspaper ( I mean I don’t intend to take credit for the thoughts expressed in this paragraph) that in the US the schools were not shut down because they knew that the social cost of closing the schools in the form of lost education to the students and loss of work by working parents staying at home to take care of the kids will be more severe than the risk of the H1N1 virus.

And kids after all can not be contained by merely closing down of schools. Leave alone the instances of their mall visits and leisure trips, (that is one extreme), you can not stop them from playing with each other in groups at home.

Fortunately, the virus seems to have been controlled by now, but I believe that it is not due to the efforts of the government (if there were any), but because of the ongoing heat wave and lack of rainfall. Both these factors have helped in controlling the spread of the virus.

And fortunately again, the schools will reopen day after tomorrow. But I know that uneasy days lie ahead!!!

Whatever she has missed in terms of syllabus in the last ten days, she will be made to cover up, in the form of extra home work in the coming twenty days.

I wish God provided us, the human mortals with a system of ‘hours/time savings account’. Whatever extra time one has at a particular point of time which he/she does not know how to make use of, ought to have been made capable of being saved in a locker, and should have been made redeemable at the hour of need. With advance of technology there could also be an option to allow trading of those saved hour/time units.

Otherwise, my dear students (all over Mumbai) remember tough days lie ahead!!!!
